OCT. 4 - CSU Dance Team to Host Junior Clinic
CSU’s official dance team, Versatile, will host an inaugural Fall Junior Dance Clinic from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at the Woodruff Gym. Aspiring dancers in kindergarten through high school can participate. A $40 registration fee includes a commemorative T-shirt, keepsake photo, lunch and more. Parents are encouraged to attend. OCT. 4 -Student Bassoon Recital

OCT. 4 - Astronomy Night
CSU’s Coca-Cola Space Science Center will stage an Astronomy Night program of stargazing and planet viewing on Saturday at the center, 701 Front St., Columbus. OCT. 5 - Student Voice Recital

OCT. 6-10 - International Education Week Programs
CSU’s Center for International Education will observe International Education Week with a series of programs, both educational and entertaining, Monday through Friday, Oct. 6-10. A “Ten Thousand Villages Festival Sale,” from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday through Friday in the International House, will open and anchor the series. The sale supports the efforts of artisans from more than 36 countries by selling their handmade gifts, home decor, jewelry and personal accessories through Ten Thousand Villages, a nonprofit organization. • Monday - Film screening: Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter ... and Spring, 7 p.m., International House. Free and open to the public.
• Tuesday - Lecture: “Is International Dialogue Possible?” by visiting philosophy professor Maya Soboleva, 12:30 p.m. International House. Free and open to the public.
• Wednesday - International Dance Showcase: “Step Up to the Rhythms of the World,” 6:30 p.m. Davidson Student Center game room. Free and open to the public.
• Friday - Lecture: “Most Muslims are Terrorists … and Other Common Myths,” by Georgia Southern political science professor Krista Wiegand, 1 p.m. International House. An International Learning Communities program, open only to CSU faculty, staff and students.
• Friday - International Games and Food Festival, 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. , Intramural Field and Mock Pavilion on Clearview Circle. Free and open to the public.

OCT. 6-7 - Aflac/Cougar Invitational

OCT. 6 - Chamber Singers and Concert Chorale
The CSU Chamber Singers and Concert Chorale will perform “Madrigals, Motets and More...” at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 6 in RiverCenter’s Legacy Hall. OCT. 7 - Harvard Professor to Direct Writing Workshops
Professor Nancy Sommers, who teaches writing for Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education, will direct a series of workshops at Columbus State University Oct. 7 to support CSU’s writing-focused Quality Enhancement Plan. Sommers will direct the following interactive sessions will run through the afternoon:

• Session for Writing Center consultants, 2:30-3:30 p.m., Woodall 116

Sommers, who for 20 years directed Harvard’s first-year writing program, is well known for her research into student writing. Cummings said Sommers’ visit reflects the growing stature of CSU's QEP, as faculty members from other Southeast colleges and universities will travel to Columbus to participate in the workshops. “Our QEP effort is truly unparalleled in the region,” he said, For more information, call Cummings at 706-565-4139.

OCT. 7 - When Cultures Collide Series Lecture
The series “When Cultures Collide: Dialogues with Native American History and Culture” continues with a lecture, “Post-Columbus Encounters: The Good, the Bad and The Ugly,” by CSU anthropology professor Warren Church at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Columbus Public Library. The program is free. OCT. 9-12 - CSU Theatre to Stage ‘Bat Boy: The Musical’
CSU Theatre will stage “Bat Boy: The Musical” Oct. 9-12 at CSU Theatre on the Park, Mainstage. Curtain times are 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. Associate Professor Kate Musgrove will direct a CSU student cast in this comedy based on the Weekly World News tabloid series of a half-bat, half-boy found in a Hope Falls, Va., cave and raised by a local family. Ticket prices are $20 for general admission, $18 for senior citizens, children, active military personnel and CSU alumni, and free with CSU ID. OCT. 10 - Quarterly Sales Luncheon at Cunningham Center
CSU’s Cunningham Sales Institute will host its next quarterly sales luncheon from 11:45 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday Oct. 10 in the Cunningham Center. The featured speaker is Derrick Shields of ERA Elite Ventures Realty in Columbus, who’s regional director for the Georgia Association of Realtors. OCT. 10 & 12 - NCAA Women's Soccer: PBC vs. Conference Carolinas Shootout
CSU’s women’s soccer squad will host a Peach Belt Conference vs. Conference Carolinas Shootout with matches on Friday, Oct. 10 and Sunday, Oct. 12 at the CSU Soccer Complex. The schedule of games is:

• Friday: Armstrong Atlantic State vs. Queens, 5 p.m.; CSU vs. Belmont Abbey, 7:30 p.m.
• Sunday: Armstrong Atlantic State vs. Belmont Abbey, 11 a.m.; CSU vs. Queens, 1:30 p.m.

OCT. 11 - Children’s Open House at Schwob School of Music
CSU’s Schwob School of Music will host an open house for children from 2-5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11 at the Saunders Center for Music Studies in RiverCenter for the Performing Arts. CSU music students will present games and an “Instrument Petting Zoo,” where kids can touch, see and hear various instruments. OCT. 11 – Genealogy Program: ‘A Suitcase in Georgia’
A family historian from Macon will give a genealogy presentation titled “A Suitcase in Georgia” at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11 at the Schwob Library on CSU’s main campus. Jennifer O'Kelley will describe her discovery of a suitcase full of old letters in the basement of a house she bought in Macon. OCT. 11 - Guest Performance by Vocalist Tiffany Blake
Guest vocalist Tiffany Blake will present a multimedia recital of song cycles titled “The Loves and Lives of Women” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11 in RiverCenter’s Legacy Hall. Blake, an opera performer and director from the faculty at Colorado State University, will perform Chansons de Bilitis by Claude Debussy, Try Me, Good King by Libby Larsen and Frauenliebe und Leben by Robert Schumann . She also will recite letters and journal entries by Robert and Clara Schumann and display artwork and photographs. OCT. 12 - Second Sunday Series: ‘Owls, Owls, Fantastic Fowls’
CSU’s Oxbow Meadows Environmental Learning Center will present “Owls, Owls, Fantastic Fowls” as its Second Sunday series program for Sunday, Oct. 12 at the center, 3535 South Lumpkin Road, Columbus. The program will cover owl life histories and behavior and how to identify local owls by sight and sound and where to find them. The program will run in separate sessions: 1-2 p.m. for parents and children and 2:30-4 p.m. for adults and children . Admission is $5 and $2 for children .
