SEPTEMBER 1 - Painterly Gestures Art Exhibition
Columbus State’s Art Department hosts an Art exhibition entitled “Painterly Gestures.”
Paintings will be displayed August 27- September 28 at Illges Gallery located in the
Corn Center for the Visual Arts during normal operation hours . Participating artists
include Jiha Moon, Robert Horvath, Anthony Craig Drennen, Susannah Bluhm, and Betsy

SEPTEMBER 2 – Labor Day: No Classes, Offices closed
The campus will be closed in observance of the Labor Day holiday.
SEPTEMBER 5 - Columbus Photographers 2013 Exhibit
Columbus State’s Elizabeth Bradley Turner Center hosts an exhibit displaying photos
taken by local photographers at CSU’s Rankin Arts Photography Center starting Thursday,
September 5 from 7-9 p.m. and ending Sunday, September 15. Local photographers competed
against one another for a cash prize, first second and third ribbons, and a chance
to have their work displayed at the exhibit. Tonia Hughes, renowned photographer and
juror for the competition, chose a total of 48 images from 27 photographers to complete
the exhibit entitled “Columbus Photographers 2013.” Free. For more information call

SEPTEMBER 6 - Clarinet and Piano Faculty Recital
Columbus State’s Schwob School of Music hosts a faculty music recital at 7:30 p.m. Friday, September 6 in
the RiverCenter’s Legacy Hall. The concert features Schwob School of Music’s own Oberlander

SEPTEMBER 6 – NCAA Volleyball is Back!
Columbus State’s volleyball squad restarts its program with their fist game of the
year against Johnson C. Smith in the CSU-Hughston Clinic Invitational at 7 p.m. Friday,
September 6 at Lumpkin Center. Admission is $5 per person or $3 for ages 12 and younger,

SEPTEMBER 7 – NCAA Volleyball
Columbus State’s volleyball squad plays Limestone at 12:30 p.m., and Fort Valley State
at 7 p.m. Saturday, September 7 at the Lumpkin Center. Admission is $5 per person
or $3 for ages 12 and younger, and free for CSU students, faculty and staff with ID.

SEPTEMBER 7 - Oxbow’s Reading Club
Columbus State’s Oxbow Meadows will hosts story time every Saturday, September 7 at
11 a.m. in room 203. Parents are asked to donate $1 for their child to watch a show
filled with pictures, puppets, or skits. A membership card will be issued upon paying
$1. After 10 visits to Oxbow’s story time, your child’s membership card will be redeemed

SEPTMEBR 8 – Baritone and Violin Faculty Recital
Columbus State’s Schwob School of Music will hosts a faculty music recital at 4 p.m. Sunday, September 8
in the RiverCenter’s Legacy Hall. The concert features Schwob School of Music’s Earl
Coleman, the William and Isabelle Curry Faculty Scholar Chair in Voice. He will present
an afternoon of music for voice and violin including works by Mendelssohn, Faure,
Strauss and 20th century North American composers. He will be assisted by Janie Lee
Bullock, piano, Betty Anne Diaz, piano, Joseph Golden, organ, Susan Tomkiewicz, oboe,

SEPTEMBER 10 - Gallery Talk with Craig Drennen
Columbus State’s Department of Art will host “Painterly Gestures” at 12 p.m., Tuesday,
September 10 in the Illges Gallery. Painterly Gestures is an art exhibit designed
for the artists to appropriate traditions, ideas, and techniques of painting as a
way to make us rethink the medium. The participating artists are Jiha Moon, Robert
Horvath, Craig Drennen, Susannah Bluhm, and Betsy Eby. On this particular day, Craig

Griffiths and Yien Wang, who will play works by Handel, Decruck, Bolcom and Cockroft.

Columbus State’s Theatre Department will perform “Rapunzel, Rapunzel! A Very Hairy
Fairytale” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, September 12 at the Riverside Theatre Complex. Brenda
May Ito directs this magical musical re-telling of the classic fairy tale. The book,
music, and lyrics are by Janet Uates Vogt and Mark Friedman. Adult tickets are $10.
Tickets for children , seniors , and active duty military are $5. CSU students will
receive one free ticket and CSU faculty and staff will receive two free tickets. Tickets
may be purchased or picked up the day of the show and during regular box office hours

SEPTEMBER 15 - Trumpet and Piano Faculty Recital
Columbus State’s Schwob School of Music hosts a faculty music recital at 4 p.m. Sunday, September 15 in RiverCenter’s
Legacy Hall. The concert features Schwob School of Music’s Roby Murray , and Yien
Wang . Famed trumpeter Rafael Mendez will be featured on the program with his signature
classic "La Virgen de la Macarena." Dr. Murray will be joined by his wife Lauren Murray
on English horn performing as the duo 'Harmonie del Sur' as they premiere "Salon Music,"

SEPTMEBR 22 – Philharmonic Faculty Concert
Columbus State’s Schwob School of Music hosts their concert at 4 p.m. Sunday, September 22 in the RiverCenter’s
Legacy Hall. The concert features Schwob School of Music’s own Viola professor Zoran
Jacovcic performing William Walton’s virtuosic “Viola Concerto” followed by Richard
Strauss’ “Rosenkavalier Suite.” The concert will be under the direction of Paul Hostetter,
Schwob School of Music’s Ethel Foley Distinguished Chair in Orchestral Activities.

Columbus State’s Art Department’s own Heidi May will hosts a dialogue on “Becoming
the Medium,” at 7:15 p.m. in the Corn Center for Visual Arts. May, an interdisciplinary
artist and educator who specializes in drawing and digital media, will discuss her
recent research with contemporary artists and educators and aspects of her own interdisciplinary
