JUNE 10 SPACE SCIENCE CENTER TO CELEBRATE 10TH ANNIVERSARY
Columbus State Universitys Coca-Cola Space Science Center will celebrate its 10th anniversary with various activities and attractions from 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday at the center, located at 701 Front Ave., Columbus.

Highlighting the celebration, former NASA astronaut Brian Duffy will give presentations describing space travel at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. in the Omnisphere Theater. He also will sign autographs after each presentation. Duffy served with NASA from 1985-2001 and currently is an executive with Lockheed Martin Corp. The anniversary celebration will feature other interactive learning activities and demonstrations, and a 4:45 p.m. cake-cutting ceremony, followed by planetarium LASER shows and an Astronomy Night session.

JUNE 11 - OXBOW MEADOWS TO FEATURE GARDENS FOR CHILDREN
Columbus State Universitys Oxbow Meadows Environmental Learning Center will continue its Second Sunday series with Gardens for Children at 2 p.m. Sunday. Helen Phillips, general manager of Rocky Branch Nursery, will show the basic tools to get children hooked on gardening. Admission is $2 per person and free for children age 4 and under. JUNE 12 - CSU TO DEBUT X-TREME TEAMS CAMP
The Columbus State University Centers of Excellence beginning Monday will coordinate a new, two-week summer camp that encompasses mathematics, technology, writing and ecology. The camp, XTreme Teams: Where Science, Mathematics and Technology Make a Splash is designed for grades 4-6 and will run 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday, June 12-23. Campers, each bringing a brown bag lunch, will meet at the Elizabeth Bradley Turner Center and be transported to activities at the various CSU outreach facilities that comprise the Centers of Excellence.

Participants will experience hands-on science and mathematics at CSUs Oxbow Meadows Environmental Learning Center, Coca Cola Space Science Center, and Columbus Regional Mathematics Collaborative. Daily journaling will be introduced during a visit to the Carson McCullers Center for Writers and Musicians, and the camp includes a journey to Atlantas recently opened Georgia Aquarium. Throughout the two weeks, campers also will learn video and photography techniques as they chronicle the camps sights and sounds. The camps $345 fee includes Georgia Aquarium admission.   • Arts Explorers: Vincent Van Gogh 9 a.m.-3 p.m. CSUs Rankin Arts Center $125 Campers will create art in the spirit of Van Gogh, the Dutch post-impressionist artist who was most famous for Expressionist brushstrokes in his landscapes. Activities will cover sculptural bookmaking and layer landscapes from unique materials.
