MARCH 11-12 - NCAA BASEBALL: CSU TO HOST FRANCIS MARION
The Columbus State University baseball team will host Francis Marion for a pair of games at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday, and a finale at 1 p.m. Sunday at Ragsdale Field. General admission is $5, $3 for students and free for military personnel and CSU students, faculty and staff, with appropriate ID. MARCH 12 OXBOW MEADOWS TO FEATURE FROGS & TOADS
Columbus State Universitys Oxbow Meadows Environmental Learning Center will present Hopping Buddies: Frogs & Toads as its Second Sunday series program for Sunday, March 12. Jody Rice, an interpretive ranger for FDR State Park, will present the program that starts at 2 p.m. Admission is $2 per person and free for children age 4 and under. MARCH 13 - CIE FILM SERIES TO FEATURE RABBIT-PROOF FENCE
Columbus State Universitys Center for International Education will screen Rabbit-Proof Fence at 7 p.m. Monday in CSUs International House at 6 Clearview Circle. The event, part of the CIE spring film series, is free and open to the public. The film is based on the true story of an Aborigine girl who leads her sister and cousin on a daring escape from an Australian government internment camp. The girls elude authorities as they embark on a 1,500-mile adventure toward home along the rabbit-proof fence that bisects the continent. For more information, call 706-565-4036.

MARCH 14-15 - WORKSHOPS COVERING GOOGLE, IT TRENDS IN EDUCATION TARGET LOCAL TEACHERS, CSU FACULTY
Columbus State Universitys Center for Quality Teaching and Learning will target CSU faculty members and local P-12 teachers with a workshop series titled New Trends in Instructional Technology. The following sessions, on Tuesday and Wednesday, in Cunningham 332 will be directed by Patrick Crispen, a nationally distinguished expert in learning technology:

Creating Your Own Video Tutorials and On-Screen Demonstrations: Using the New Camtasia Studio 3.1 for Windows, 1-4 p.m. Wednesday Crispen, interim instructional technology coordinator at California State University in Long Beach, formerly served as internet training materials specialist at Network Solutions where managed the internationally acclaimed 15 Minute Series, a series of free PowerPoint-based Internet training presentations. MARCH 16 - FACULTY RESEARCH FORUMS TO COVER CARSON McCULLERS, IMPACT OF RICHARDS MIDDLE SCHOOL CURRICULUM INITIATIVE
Columbus State University Libraries will open its annual series of Universitywide Faculty Research Forums at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, March 16 in the Schwob Library with the following presentations:

• CSUs Carson McCullers Center by English professor Cathy Fussell, director of CSUs Carson McCullers Center for Writers and Musicians.
• Efficacy of an International Studies Program in Transforming Middle School Culture: First Year Implementation of the International Baccalaureate Programme in a Central Georgia Urban Middle School by educational leadership professor Tom Hackett.

Hacketts presentation will examine his collaborative study of Richards Middle Schools 2004-05 implementation of the International Baccalaureate Programme for its sixth-grade class. Based on elements of educational systems from around the world, the program facilitates learning through five areas of interaction: approaches to learning, community and service, homo faber , environment, and health and social education. The program also is specialized for elementary and secondary grade levels. Clubview Elementary and Hardaway High School also implement the program. Richards, since last year, has extended the program to serve both its sixth and seventh grades.

According to Hacketts abstract for the Richards study,interviews with faculty and parents yielded an overall positive perception of the program. Student performance data showed that the IB Programme is successfully producing mathematically skilled students whose reading ability is on par with the general school population.

Hackett, with colleagues from Troy and Auburn universities, collaborated on the study with Richards Principal Mike Johnson and teacher Kathy Hesler who coordinates the IB program. Troy University professor Iris Saltiel will join Hackett in delivering the presentation.
