Nov. 10-13 - CSU THEATRE STAGES THE ROSE OF TREASON
Columbus State Universitys Department of Theatre will stage the drama The Rose of Treason Thursday through Sunday in the Fine Arts Hall auditorium. Set in 1943 Germany, the play depicts the true story of a group of university students who start a resistance group aimed at bringing down Hitler and the Nazi regime. The effort, known as The White Rose, is regarded as among the most heroic feats in European history. show times are 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday. CSU faculty, staff and students receive one complimentary ticket. General admission is $15 and $13 for senior citizens, active military and CSU alumni. Nov. 11 - FESTIVAL JEHAN ALAIN: JEHAN ALAIN AND HIS CIRCLE
Columbus State Universitys Schwob School of Music will present Jehan Alain and his Circle a gala concert featuring the University Singers and other CSU faculty and student artists at 5 p.m. Friday in the RiverCenters Legacy Hall. The program will include vocal and choral works, chamber works of Jehan Alain and organ music of Jean Langlais and Olivier Messiaaen. The event is free and marks the opening of CSUs Festival Jehan Alain, Nov. 11-13 at the RiverCenter. Alain was a prolific composer of works for piano, organ and chorus during the early 20th Century. Nov. 12 - OXBOW MEADOWS CELEBRATES 10TH ANNIVERSARY
Columbus State University’s Oxbow Meadows Environmental Learning Center is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a grand opening of its Forest Canopy Walkway and an unveiling of a new raptor cage display. Both features will be showcased in a public celebration from 1-4 p.m. on Saturday. Free and open to the public, the event will include craft activities, games, guided nature walks and 15-minute canopy tours .

Supported with funding from MeadWestvaco, the walkway provides a bird’s-eye view of wetlands and up-close view of animal and plant life in the forest canopy. The raptor cages, separately housing a black vulture, a red-tailed hawk, a great horned owl and a barred owl, have been donated jointly by the Keep Georgia Beautiful Foundation, Jordan Jones & Goulding and Columbus Water Works. Nov. 12 - FESTIVAL JEHAN ALAIN: RECITAL BY MARIE-CLAIRE ALAIN
Columbus State Universitys Schwob School of Music will present a solo organ recital by international performing artist Marie-Claire Alain at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the RiverCenters Legacy Hall. Nov. 13 - OXBOW MEADOWS SECOND SUNDAY: NATIVE AMERICAN EARTH SKILLS
Columbus State Universitys Oxbow Meadows Environmental Learning Center will present Native American Skills at 2 p.m. Sunday as part of its Second Sunday Series. Earth skills expert Russell Cutts will demonstrate how Native Americans of the Southeast used natural resources for food, clothing, weapons and tools. Nov. 15 - CSU HONORS LECTURE: WHY SOUTH AFRICANS COULDNT RETIRE
The Columbus State University Honors Program will present a lecture titled Why South Africans Couldnt Retire, by history Professor Aran MacKinnon, who serves as the global studies director at the University of West Georgia. The lecture is free and open to the public and will be held at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday in CSUs International House at 6 Clearview Circle. Nov. 16 - CSU JOINS GEORGIA POETRY CIRCUIT, HOSTS POETRY READING BY ROBERT WRIGLEY
Columbus State University will host national award-winning poet Robert Wrigley, who will read selections from his works, at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in CSUs International House. The event, sponsored by CSU$#146s Carson McCullers Center for Writers and Musicians, is free and open to the public.

Wrigley, a University of Idaho professor, earned the prestigious Kingsley Tufts Poetry Award in 2000 for his Reign Of Snakes collection. His work also has appeared in numerous anthologies and journals including The Best American Poetry 2003, The New Yorker and The American Poetry Review. Wrigleys appearance also marks CSUs first event affiliated with CSU joining Georgia Poetry Circuit comprised of other colleges and universities in Georgia. Nov. 17 - GEOGRAPHY AWARENESS WEEK PRESENTATION EXAMINES CITY IN PERU
Columbus State Universitys Department of History and Geography will host a presentation titled The City of Huancao, Peru, its Ecological Setting and Place Identity, at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17 in CSUs International House. The event is free and open to the public and is in conjunction with Geography Awareness Week which is being observed Nov. 13-19 throughout North America. The presentation will be given by Professor Hildegardo Cordova-Aguilar who is serving in a fall 2005 appointment as CSUs Elena Diaz-Verson Amos Eminent Scholar in Latin American Studies. Nov. 18-19 CONDUCTORS WORKSHOP
Columbus State Universitys Schwob School of Music will host CSUs ninth Annual Conductors Workshop Friday and Saturday, Nov. 18-19 at the RiverCenter for the Performing Arts. CSU Professor Robert Rumbelow, conductor and director of wind ensemble activities, will direct the workshop. He will be joined by guest clinicians Paula Crider, University of Texas professor emeritus and Frank Battisti, conductor emeritus of the New England Conservatory Wind Ensemble.
