OCT. 14 - CSU CHAMBER WINDS PERFORMANCE Columbus State Universitys Schwob School of Music will present a concert by the CSU Chamber Winds at 5:30 p.m. Friday in the RiverCenters Studio Theatre. Billed as a terrific pre-dinner concert, the event will feature large chamber wind works by Beethoven, Dvorak, Stravinsky and others. General admission is $5. OCT. 14 - MIDNIGHT MADNESS TO OPEN COUGAR BASKETBALL SEASON Columbus State University marks the beginning of the 2005-06 basketball season with Midnight Madness Friday in the Lumpkin Center. Festivities start at 10 p.m. and include Herbert Greene and Jay Sparks look-a-like contests, a CSU faculty-student basketball game, CSU Dance Team and cheerleader performances and introductions of both the CSU mens and womens basketball squads. OCT. 14, 17-18 - SILENT ART AUCTION TO SUPPORT HURRICANE RELIEF Columbus State University's Department of Art is hosting a silent art auction to support CSUs hurricane relief fund, on Friday and on Monday and Tuesday. The auction, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day in the Fine Arts Hall foyer, includes works donated by artists both internationally recognized and local, including CSU art faculty and students. Media include painting, sculpture, ceramics, jewelry, photography and drawing.

Oct. 18 RECEPTION FOR SILENT ART AUCTION, GALLERY EXHIBITION Columbus State Universitys Department of Art will host a reception at 7 p.m. Tuesday for separate events a silent auction fund-raiser and a gallery exhibition Conduit: Mapping the Connections Between Art and Science. The reception in Fine Arts Hall is free and open to the public.

The silent auction, on Oct. 13-14 and Oct. 17-18 in the Fine Arts Hall foyer, is a fund-raiser to benefit the Red Cross hurricane relief effort. Artists, ranging from CSU faculty and students to internationally-known, have donated works in media including painting, sculpture, ceramics, jewelry, photography and drawing.

Meanwhile, the Conduit exhibition features paintings, prints, photographs, ceramics and sculpture that explores the relationships between investigative processes including biology, astronomy, physics and anthropology, said CSU art Professor Erika Adams, exhibition curator. The artists, in this exhibition, investigate these relationships but in an aesthetic and conceptual way. Featured artists, from throughout the United States, include Larry Brown, Jenna Spevack, Lari Gibbons, Julie Anand, Alison Carey and Elizabeth Hunt.

Oct. 20 GEORGIA PROBE FAIR TARGETS HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS WITH POST-SECONDARY EDUCATION OPTIONS High School students and their parents are invited to explore post-secondary education options by attending a Georgia PROBE Fair, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20 at Columbus State Universitys Lumpkin Center.

PROBE is the organized college fair tour that attracts representatives from non-profit educational institutions to shopping malls, civic centers, and high schools throughout the state of Georgia. Approximately 45,000 Georgia high school students and their parents will explore the options of post-secondary education this fall at one of the many fairs. Representatives from than 250 higher education institutions, including technical schools and ROTC programs, participate and provide information that includes financial aid, housing, programs of study, admission requirements, scholarships and campus life.
