OCT. 20 - CONCERT TO FEATURE CSU CHAMBER WINDS
The CSU Chamber Winds will perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the RiverCenters Legacy Hall. The program will feature an eclectic mix of chamber music, including performances of works by Gustav Holst, Igor Stravinsky, Johann Pezel, W. A. Mozart and Reynaldo Hahn, plus a pair of tangos and a song by contemporary composer Michael Daugherty. General admission is $5 and free for faculty, staff and students with CSU ID. OCT. 20 - MIDNIGHT MADNESS TO OPEN CSU BASKETBALL SEASON
The week of Oct. 15 marks the first week that NCAA basketball programs can start practice in preparation for the 2006-07 season, and CSU will celebrate this occasion Friday with Midnight Madness in the Lumpkin Center. The doors open at 9 p.m. and festivities, starting at 9:30 p.m., will include CSU cheer and dance squad performances, introductions of both the CSU mens and womens basketball squads and more. OCT. 21 - VISITATION DAY TARGETS PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS
Columbus State University will hold a visitation day for high school students and parents from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday. The program begins in the Lumpkin Center and will give prospective students the opportunity to tour campus, meet current CSU students and speak with professors in their area of interest. OCT. 23-27 - CSU TO HOLD INTERNATIONAL CRAFTS SALE FUND-RAISER
CSUs Center for International Education will host a Thousand Villages Festival Sale Monday through Friday in CSUs International House at 6 Clearview Circle. The sale will feature handcrafted goods such as jewelry, pottery and musical instruments made by artisans from around the world. Sale times are 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Monday, 4-6 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday.

Ten Thousand Villages is a nonprofit organization that provides an income source for Third World people by marketing their handicrafts and telling their stories in North America. The sale also is part of CSUs observance of International Education Week, a joint initiative of the U.S. Department and U.S. Department of Education to recognize the global exchange environment between the United States and other countries. OCT. 23 - KENYAN FULBRIGHT SCHOLAR TO LECTURE ON AFRICA POLITICS
Political history professor Eric Aseka, a Fulbright Scholar from Kenya, will give a talk on Democratization and Political Leadership in Africa: Gains and Reversals in the Politics of Ugandas Museveni and Kenyas Kibaki, from 1-2 p.m. in CSUs International House at 6 Clearview Circle. Aseka is a visiting professor this fall at Kennesaw State University. The event is part of CSUs International Education Week series and is free and open to the public. OCT. 24 LECTURE TO EXAMINE 1920s-30s LATIN AMERICAN ARTS RENAISSANCE
Music professor Max Lifchitz will present Mestizo Modernism: Revolution and Artistic Expression in Latin America, at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday in CSUs International House. Lifchitz, CSUs Elena Diaz-Verson Amos Eminent Scholar in Latin American Studies, will cover the emergence of national styles in artistic expression throughout Latin America in the 1920s and 1930s. Artists took mestizo folk traditions and applied them in poetry , paintings and music . OCT. 24 - CSU CAMERATA TO FEATURE CSU-LOCAL ARTISTS COLLABORATION
CSU Camerata, a collaborative Schwob School of Music chamber orchestra featuring students, faculty and area professionals, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the RiverCenters Legacy Hall. This annual performance will include Aaron Coplands Appalachian Spring and John Harbisons Mirabai Songs, featuring CSU vocal faculty member, Michelle DeBruyn. OCT. 25 EXHIBITION TO CELEBRATE WORLD CULTURES
CSUs Center for International Education will stage a Celebrate Your Country contest and exhibition from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25 in the Fine Arts Hall foyer. This artistic showcase by CSUs international students will feature original works, from artwork to dance, representing the students home countries. OCT. 26 - PIANIST JON KIMURA PARKER TO OPEN PREMIER SERIES
Pianist Jon Kimura Parker will open the Schwob School of Musics 2006-07 Premier Series of concerts at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 26 in the RiverCenters Legacy Hall. Parker returns to CSU as the Dr. E. Stephen Purdom Distinguished Visiting Artist. In this first of two performances, he will perform pieces by Di Liberto, Schumann and Schubert, and an arrangement of themes from The Wizard of Oz, prepared especially for Parker by William Hirtz and based on the film score by Harold Arlen and Herbert Stothart. OCT. 27 EVENT TO SHOWCASE WORLD DANCE RHYTHMS
CSUs Center for International Education will present So You Think You Can Dance: Rhythms of the World, from 7-9 p.m. in the Davidson Student Center game room. The program will feature CSUs international students demonstrating traditional dances that originate from regions including Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean.
