Oct. 21-22 - HIGH SCHOOL CHORAL COMPETITION TO DRAW SOUTHEASTS MOST TALENTED
The Choral/Vocal Department of Columbus State Universitys Schwob School of Music will host its second annual High School Vocal Solo Quartet Invitational Friday and Saturday at the RiverCenter for the Performing Arts.

Themed Skins and Cords: Music for Mixed Voices and Percussion, the event will culminate with a free concert, Music of Germanic Masters, performed by competition participants along with the CSU Chorale and University Singers at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in Legacy Hall. The event is designed to provide a unique opportunity for high school vocalists to perform specific choral works with the University Singers, CSU Chorale and CSU Percussion Ensemble, said Professor Michael Marcades, director of choral activities for the Schwob School of Music. The participants also will meet with members of CSUs Vocal Arts voice faculty, chaired by Professor Earl Coleman.

Last years inaugural competition drew students from throughout the Southeast and from as far away as Dallas. Marcades said he expects similar participation in 2005. Those students will experience Uptown Columbus lodging and restaurants, as well as the music schools home in the RiverCenter a state-of-the-art performing arts facility. The competition also serves as a showcase of CSUs music school and surroundings for prospective students who are among the most talented of their peers, Marcades added.
