Oct. 27 – Executive Speaker Series: Bill Heard Sr.

Oct. 27 – Faculty Rite of Passage Convocation
Come hear Columbus State faculty recently promoted to the highest academic rank — Warren B. Church, professor of archeology and anthropology, and Dorinda L. Dowis, professor of criminal justice — share brief insights about their teaching experiences, research or, more generally, life in academia. Light lunch refreshments will be served beginning at noon in the main CSU library's first floor forum area, followed by the talks from 12:30-1:30 p.m. CSU's Office of Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs has sponsored these Rite of Passage Convocations since 2003. Oct. 27-30 – Theatre Production: Noises Off
Columbus State University Theatre presents Noises Off from Oct. 27-30 at Theatre on the Park, Mainstage. Show times are 7:30 p.m. Thursday-Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. Michael Frayn's Tony Award winning comedy is based on a comedic nightmare that ensues behind the scenes of Nothing On, a British sex farce production. Oct. 28 – Gallery Reception for Video Exhibition
Columbus State’s Department of Art presents a reception, 5:30-7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 28, for the opening of Space Reliant, An Erasure of the Border Between the Screen and the Body in the Corn Center for Visual Arts’ Illges Gallery. The Nov. 1-19 exhibition, curated by Hannah Israel, features video works by Hiraki Sawa, Jacques Tati, Francis Alyss and Liz Rodda, who will serve as an Oct. 27-Nov. 9 CSU artist-in-residence. Oct. 29 – Graduate School Expo
Columbus State will stage a Graduate School Expo, free and open to the public, from 9:30 a.m.-noon Saturday, Oct. 29 in CSU’s Cunningham Center, room 156. The event will showcase graduate degree programs in education, business, public administration, health, leadership and more. The program also will feature recently established master’s programs in higher education leadership, music performance, history and nursing. Oct. 29 – Spooktacular in Uptown Columbus
CSU’s Student Government Association teams up with uptown Columbus merchants and organizations to present the 10th annual Spooktacular Halloween Festival from 5-7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29 on the 1000-1100 blocks of Broadway.Spooktacular is designed to offer Columbus children a free, safe environment to enjoy Halloween. A costume contest at 6:15 p.m. features three categories from infant through age 12.

Oct. 29 – CSU Philharmonic and Choral Union Concert
Columbus State’s Schwob School of Music presents the CSU Philharmonic and Choral Union in concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29 in RiverCenter’s Heard Theatre. The program features Dvorak’s Te Deum and faculty cellist Wendy Warner performing Samuel Barber's Concerto for Cello. The conductors are Constantina Tsolainou and Paul Hostetter. Admission is $10. The program features Martinu's Sextet for Piano and Winds and Beethoven's Clarinet Trio Op. 11in B-flat Major. Nov. 1-19 – Art Exhibit of Video Works
Columbus State’s Department of Art presents Space Reliant, An erasure of the border between the screen and the body from Tuesday, Nov. 1 through Saturday, Nov. 19 in the Corn Center for Visual Arts’ Illges Gallery. This exhibition, curated by Hannah Israel, assistant professor of art and gallery director, is a survey of video works that investigates the relationship of space in relation to the body and the cinematic screen. This exhibition will feature four major works by artistic filmmakers Hiraki Sawa, Jacques Tati, Francis Alyss and visiting artist Liz Rodda. Nov. 3 – Interdisciplinary Graduate Research Conference:
Columbus State University's Graduate School will hold its first Interdisciplinary Graduate Research Conference from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3 in CSU's Cunningham Center, 3100 Gentian Blvd. Graduate students from throughout the Southeast will discuss their research in a variety of fields in panel format. Columbus State’s Department of History and Geography presents Donald Fixico, a nationally renowned Creek Indian scholar, who will present a lecture on The Power of Creek Oral Tradition at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3 at the Columbus Public Library, 3000 Macon Road. Nov. 3 – CSU Philharmonic Concert
Columbus State’s Schwob School of Music presents a CSU Philharmonic Orchestra performance at 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3 in RiverCenter’s Legacy Hall. The Philharmonic will partner with the Georgia Music Teachers Association to feature two regional competition winners: Laura Pereira, performing the third movement of Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in E Minor, and Yobo Su, performing the first movement of Grieg's Piano Concerto. The Philharmonic also presents Gershwin's American in Paris to round out this program of audience favorites conducted by Paul Hostetter, CSU’s Ethel Foley Distinguished Chair for Orchestral Activities.
