CSU Happenings: Summer Camps Open

MAY 22-26 - ARTS EXPLORERS CAMP: PABLO PICASSO
Columbus State Universitys Rankin Arts Center will host a Pablo Picasso summer camp, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily, Monday through Friday. Participants, grouped by grades K-2 and 3-5, will create three-dimensional puzzles, explore mask-making and construct cubist sculptures. The fee is $125. MAY 22-26 - SUMMER FUN CAMP: SHORT STORIES & TALL TALES
Columbus State University Continuing Education will host a Short Stories & Tall Tales summer camp for ages 7-10, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day at the Elizabeth Bradley Turner Center. Participants will listen to, act out and retell various stories; and learn to create their own entertaining tales. The fee is $125. For more information, call 706-568-2023.

Summer Camps Overview
Columbus State University Continuing Education, Centers for Excellence and Athletics are collaborating to offer a wide variety of camps and classes 46 offerings for children, newborns to teens.

The programs, weekly from May 22 through July 28, will feature weeklong, half and full-day sessions. Campers can experience being a Rocketbooster or Comet Jumper in science camps at CSUs Coca-Cola Space Science Center; experience nature and wildlife at Oxbow Meadows or discover math with a twist of fun through CSUs Columbus Regional Math Collaborative. All three centers also will collaborate in one mega camp: XTreme Teams: Where Science, Mathematics, and Technology Make a Splash! .

Soccer, basketball, baseball, tennis and golf camps offer opportunities for trying a new sport or for fine-tuning skills. Also, the 33rd annual Cheerleading Camp provides an alternative, as do dance camps with The Columbus Ballet or CSU Dance Team.

Music, art, and theatre camps at the Rankin Arts Center in uptown Columbus are another option. The Arts Explorers will explore visual arts in the mornings and dance, music, and theatre each afternoon.

Meanwhile, camps at the Elizabeth Bradley Turner Center will include CSI Columbus and CSI Mystery for kids who are interested in forensics and clue finding; Backyards & Beanstalks for those who love playing in the garden; Crank up the Volume allowing campers to explore dance through jazz; and Food Mania to pique the interest of kids who enjoy creating art that is completely edible.
