COLUMBUS, Ga. - July marks the final month of Columbus State University Continuing Education summer camps for 2006.

The Rankin Arts Center Arts Explorers series highlights a menu of offerings that will change weekly through the month. Kids from grades K-5 will emulate legendary artists Romare Bearden , Faith Ringgold and Andy Warhol as they create their own works. For example, Bearden campers will use collage techniques, construct Africa-inspired masks and collaborate on a mural via printmaking.

Elsewhere, campers will Crank Up the Volume at the Elizabeth Bradley Turner Center as they explore movement through the fast-paced motion of jazz . Also, Who Wants to be a Millionaire? will showcase the business of banking, as campers ages 7-10 tour behind the scenes of a local bank and learn how financial institutions turn clients pennies into dollars.

Among camps at CSUs Coca-Cola Space Science Center, Spaceland will show the uniqueness of the planets. Campers, from grades 3-4, will fly Challenger missions, design and model planetary surfaces, build and launch rockets and visit a military aviation museum.

CSU sports camps round out the July offerings. Due to popular demand, a tennis camp has been added to run July 31-Aug. 3. Also, in addition to soccer and basketball programs, the 33rd annual Cheerleading Camp for ages 4-14 will feature guidance from CSU coach Jimbo Davis and his cheerleaders, one of the nation's top Division II programs with several Peach Belt Conference titles and national championships.
