CSU Names Top Students And Faculty

Communication Professor Tamara Bollis-Pecci was named Educator of the Year and Jacquelynne Jordan earned the Faculty Cup, the most prestigious student honor, April 26 as part of Columbus State University's Scholastic Honors Convocation. Other top faculty honors went to business Professor Mark Thornton and Spanish language Professor Alyce Cook .

The convocation also included top students of each academic department, students making the list of Who's Who Among American College and University Students, and retired faculty who have earned emeritus status.

The highest awards went to:

Tamara Bollis-Pecci, Educator of the Year, has published several journal articles on communication in addition to her teaching and advising duties as an assistant professor of communication. She also serves on CSU's Status of Women Committee and as the faculty adviser for the Students for the Ethical Treatment of Animals organization. She has a master's degree from the University of Memphis and is working toward a doctorate of philosophy in communication from the University of Denver.

Mark Thornton, Faculty Research and Scholarship, has served as the book review editor for the Quarterly Journal of Austrian Economics while mentoring CSU business majors as an associate professor of economics. Thornton, who joined the Abbott Turner College of Business in 1999, has also published two books: 'The Economics of Prohibition' and 'Interests Succession and Conflict: the Economics of Civil War.' He has also authored or co-authored more than 70 journal articles and has 10 articles in progress. He holds a doctorate in economics from Auburn University.

Alyce Cook, Faculty Service, has directed the Colloquium on Latin American Literature and directs the CSU study abroad program in Mexico. An associate professor of Spanish at CSU, she serves on several university committees including the Hunter Lecture, Study Abroad Scholarship, Foreign Language and Amos Eminent Scholar. She holds a doctotate in Spanish from the University of Virginia.

Jacquelynne Jordan, Faculty Cup, graduates this spring with an overall 3.87 GPA which included a perfect 4.0 in the coursework of her study major, communication. A CSU Honors Scholar since 1998, she has also earned a Kennon and Parker Scholarship and a Regents Scholarship . Other CSU academic achievements have included the dean's list, 2001 Greek Scholar of the Year, and 2002 Outstanding Achievement in Intercultural Communication.
