COLUMBUS, Ga. – In celebration of National Novel Writing Month , Columbus State University’s Carson McCullers Center for Writers and Musicians and CSU’s Creative Writing Club will host a Write-A-Thon Saturday, Nov. 1 and Sunday, Nov. 2 at the McCullers Center on Stark Avenue. The center will be open all day Saturday and Sunday for aspiring writers to gather and work on their novels.Participants are challenged to write a 50,000-word novel in one month, starting November 1 and ending November 30 at 11:59 p.m.
“Nanowrimo is a fun, seat-of-your-pants approach to creative writing,” said Sunshine King, electronic resources and systems assistant for the Schwob Memorial Library and Nanowrimo municipal liaison for Georgia. “Write-A-Thon will be a great way to meet other people who are interested in writing, and get them to finish that novel they’ve been thinking about.”
A free shuttle service from campus to the McCullers Center will be available to CSU students, faculty and staff interested in attending the event. The Write-A-Thon is free to attend and open to the public. Refreshments and wi-fi service will also be available. For more information, contact Sunshine King at king_sunshine@columbusstate.edu or 706-761-0589.
The Carson McCullers Center offers extensive educational and cultural programming to students of CSU and the Columbus community. Once the childhood home of Carson McCullers, a memorable novelist and playwright from the 1940s and 1950s, the McCullers Center operates as a museum for an ever-growing archive of materials related to the life and work of McCullers. Recently, the center acquired a wealth of possessions from McCullers’ adult home in Nyack, N.Y., a gift from the estate of Dr. Mary Mercer, the author’s physician and long-time friend.
