Department of Theatre hosts annual Georgia Thespians Conference
February 12, 2015
The Columbus State University Department of Theatre once again played host to over 4,500 high school students for the annual Georgia Thespians Conference, February 5-7. Theatre students from around the state gathered Uptown for workshops, performances, individual competitions, and auditions. Events took place in the Department's Riverside Theatre Complex, the Columbus Trade Center, the Rivercenter for the Performing Arts, and The Springer Opera House. So many students attended that both the Opening and Closing ceremonies in Bill Heard Hall had to be repeated to accommodate the large numbers. The Columbus Convention and Visitors Bureau estimates the economic impact of the conference for the Columbus area at over $800,000. CSU theatre students provided assistance and coordination for the event, and faculty led workshops and attended college auditions.###
