Earth and Space Sciences Professor Awarded $25,000 STEM Innovation Grant

Kim Shaw, professor of physics in Columbus State University’s Department of Earth and Spaces Sciences, was recently awarded a 2015 Complete College Georgia STEM Innovation grant for $25,000. With this grant, Shaw and her colleagues, Tim Howard, CSU professor of mathematics, and Amy Thornton, director of CSU’s Center of Online Learning, will create a Faculty Learning Community to provide resources and support for up to 15 STEM faculty that commit to creating “flipped” lessons, or lessons that include interactive discussions and in-class exercises instead of a traditional lecture.To view Shaw’s grant proposal, visit http://www.completegeorgia.org/content/building-faculty-learning-community-support-flipped-classroom-pedagogies-and-improve-student.
