Human Resource Management Degrees Renewed for SHRM Alignment

COLUMBUS, Ga. — Columbus State University has been notified by the world's largest human resource management association that its two business degrees related to the field have been reviewed and remain aligned with its standards.

Compliance with the Society of Human Resource Management standards means that Columbus State graduates will acquire specific HR skills sought by employers after earning CSU's Bachelor of Business Administration, majoring in management with a concentration in human resources, or CSU's Master of Science in Organizational Leadership with a concentration in human resources management.

In 2009, the undergraduate degree offered by Columbus State's Turner College of Business became the first of its kind in Georgia to meet SHRM standards. CSU's graduate degree, also offered by the Turner college, earned similar status after its introduction in 2010. Throughout the world, SHRM has acknowledged 308 programs in 232 educational institutions as being in alignment with its guidelines.

The standards are part of SHRM's academic initiative to define minimum HR content areas taught in university business schools. SHRM's efforts have gained support from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Columbus State's Turner College of Business earned AACSB International accreditation in 2004, a distinction then held by only 27 percent of the nation's business schools.
