April 24, 2017
A paper by Columbus State University professors Andres Jauregui and Kirk Heriot was recently published in Cornell Hospitality Quarterly. The article, titled “Goodbye Columbus: Accommodation Taxes and OTAs,” examines the economic impact of the delisting of Columbus, Ga. from online travel agency sites, such as Expedia and Orbitz, resulting from a 2006 lawsuit over uncollected accommodation taxes.Jauregui, an associate professor of economics, and Heriot, a professor of management in CSU’s Turner College of Business, said the results of their study should be of interest to communities and their tourism offices as well as hoteliers.
