Service Week To Promote Community Service

In an effort to raise the local communitys awareness of citizenship and civic responsibility, Columbus State Universitys Servant Leadership Program will stage a program series,Service and Citizenship: Local Opportunity, Global Impact, March 7-11. The initiative is part the American Association of State Colleges and Universities American Democracy Project. For more information, call 565-3655.
The following events highlight Service Week and are free and open to the public:
Tuesday
Presentations by Mike Cobb and Mitzi Oxford . 12:15-1:15 p.m. Stanley 207.
Panel discussion: Volunteerism and Non-profit Organizations. Moderator: CSU Vice
President for Academic Affairs Martha Saunders. Panelists: College of Science Dean
George Stanton, Computer Science Professor Tena McQueen, Cunningham Center Executive
Director Carmen Cavezza and three CSU student representatives.
6-7:30 p.m. Lumpkin Center Presidents Club.
Wednesday
Student Service Celebration. Informational displays by CSU student service organizations.
12-2 p.m. CSU Clock Tower.
Thursday
Presentation by Peace Corps Recruiter Michael Jenkins. 12:15-1:15 p.m. Center for
Commerce and Technology Room 237.

Friday :Showcase for Service , 8-10 p.m. The Abbey - 1023 First Ave.: Students will
share their musical talents on stage and/or donate items and services to a silent
auction to benefit the Red Cross. Auction items will be available for bid at functions
all week, but winners will be announced during the concert. Students are encouraged
to donate such items, or services as a car wash, bake goods and tutoring.
