Steve Gunn Visits After 'Big Break'

Singer-songwriter Steve Gunn, hailed by Rolling Stone Magazine as a “virtuoso guitarist,” visited Columbus over the weekend for two shows, each hosted by Columbus State University.

Gunn performed a free afternoon acoustic set at CSU’s Carson McCullers Center for Writers and Musicians on Sunday, March 22 at 4 p.m. Gunn’s second performance, featuring a full band and opening number by fellow troubadour Ryley Walker, began at 8 p.m. in the Studio Theatre at the RiverCenter for the Performing Arts.

With a career spanning nearly 15 years, New York-based Gunn has produced volumes of critically acclaimed solo, duo and ensemble recordings. His recent releases - Time Out and Way Out Weather - have received rave reviews from NPR, MOJO Magazine, Pitchfork Media, Inc., and Rolling Stone Magazine.

“We caught him right at his ‘big break’,” said Joe Miller, professor of English and concert organizer. “Gunn just signed with Matador Records, a popular indie rock label.”
