UITS Fall 2013 Projects Update

In the first eight months of 2013, UITS has completed 77 different projects. During the same period of time, there were another 82 ongoing projects within our department and 47 (57%) of those were in various stages of completion. Following is a list of projects UITS completed during the Spring and Summer 2013 semesters. In addition listed are upcoming projects for the Fall 2013 semester.

Projects completed during the 2013 Spring and Summer semester.

  • Undergraduate Online Application
    A Columbus State University online Admissions Application to encourage electronic submissions instead of paper-based ones.

  • DegreeWorks Implementation
    A multi-department implementation of Ellucian’s Degree Works which is a comprehensive academic planning, advising and degree audit solution/tool.

  • Institutional Intelligence
    Began Phase II of our Business Intelligence (BI) project. This involves all aspects of finance, Peoplesoft and Banner Financial Aid. In addition, predictive analysis on retention, progression, and graduation (RPG) is also being developed.

  • Howard 210 Instructional Technology Upgrade
    A project to upgrade the classroom’s multimedia technology during Spring Break with state-of-the-art equipment.

  • NGLC/Degreein3 Program
    Create an online application, website, and brochure to market and promote the online Communication and Criminal Justice degrees.

  • Academic Partnerships
    Create an online application for students enrolling in select College of Education and Health Profession degree programs .

  • Computer Lab and classroom upgrades
    Upgrade classroom student computers in LeNoir 201 and 126, Center for Commerce and Technology 124, 349, and 350, and One Arsenal  112.

  • Telephone Provider Transition
    Transition Voice over IP (VoIP) phones to a locally-hosted platform to decrease our monthly expenses.


Projects for the Fall 2013 Semester

  • Campus Fiber Infrastructure
    Completed a $1 million dollar project with AT&T contractors that ran additional fiber network cables throughout the university to improve network connectivity and redundancy.

  • CSU TV & MediaCom Cable Service
    Launched a Columbus State TV station that provides education, sport, and campus content.  Partnered with MediaCom to provide the CSU TV station content to community residential cable subscribers and be the campus cable TV provider.

  • Computer Lab and classroom upgrades
    Upgraded classroom student computers in Arnold 201, Jordan 208,  and One Arsenal  101, and 111.

  • LANDesk Implementation
    Implementing a replacement software for  the Zenworks software with a more robust computer management and security suite.

  • D2L Analytics
    Worked with Board of Regents Office of Information Technology Services (ITS) to develop dashboards and reports of key performance indicators for Desire2learn learning management software.

  • CougarNet Upgrade
    Upgraded the CougarNet portal to a newer and modern portal software with input from all users.

  • CSU Website Homepage Redesign
    Updated the look of the University’s homepage as well the college and department Websites with a new responsive design to be launched soon.

  • Google Interior Mapping
    Worked with Google to provide geomapping by latitude/longitude and elevation plus interior views of campus buildings to be displayed upon Google Maps.
